About the Event

In Lovers Rock, Steve McQueen's second installment of his Small Axe series, West Indian immigrants in 1980s London find romance and liberation (albeit briefly) over the course of a single evening — especially poignant as it was released while much of the world was experiencing some form of lockdown.

Join us for a virtual conversation with Annenberg Mediamaker-in-Residence Maori Karmael Holmes along with scholars Deborah Thomas and d. Sabela Grimes, who will discuss this remarkable collection and address migration, performance, and cinematography.
