James Hiebert enjoys exploring the world through excursions such as visits to industrial sites in Northeastern Pennsylvania (!) or field trips to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions through COMM 482: Conventions, Debates, and Campaigns. On campus, James is the president of Men Against Rape and Sexual Assault, where he helps facilitate conversations about consent and masculinity to build healthy and safe spaces. He also serves as Vice President of the Government and Politics Association. At its Thanksgiving potluck dinner last year, James baked three pecan pies which were gobbled up in no time.

One of his favorite memories since coming to Penn is his participation in the Penn Media Scholars in China program two summers ago where he had the opportunity to live and learn in China for one month. Nick enjoys exploring LGBT history and theory and draws his inspiration from the activists, artists, and journalists who’ve spearheaded the modern American LGBT rights movement over the past fifty years.

Through various programs at Penn, Raquel Laguerre has traveled to places like Israel, Rwanda, and Poland. She appreciates any opportunity to travel and learn about different lifestyles, people, and careers, in addition to learning more about herself. When she’s not traveling, Raquel keeps busy on campus as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and Penn Fashion Collective. Passionate about health and wellness, Raquel made the decision to go vegan four years ago. “To me,” she says, “health is wealth!”
