John L. Jackson, Jr. has been named as the next dean of the Annenberg School for Communication, effective January 1, 2019. Jackson, a faculty member at Annenberg since 2006, is currently the Dean of Penn's School for Social Policy and Practice.

Dan Schiller has been a visiting scholar at the Annenberg School for just two weeks, but he’s no stranger to the school. Schiller received his doctorate from the Annenberg School in 1978, advised by former dean George Gerbner. He remembers Walter and Leonore Annenberg visiting the school. Schiller even met his wife in the Annenberg School library.

Annenberg’s undergraduate courses are taught both by the standing faculty and by notable practitioners in the field of Communication. This semester, the Annenberg School welcomes two new undergraduate lecturers: Doug Glanville, baseball analyst, author, and former Major League Baseball player, and Clovis Bergére, Ph.D., visual ethnographer.

This fall, the Annenberg School welcomes twelve new doctoral students as its 2017 cohort. From activism to neuroscience to media systems to politics, they bring a variety of interests and experiences to Annenberg, and have already begun collaborating with faculty and other students.

Dwayne "Mr. Fish" Booth, cartoonist and Annenberg lecturer, has a new art exhibit on display at the Annenberg School. Titled "We Are Not Alone," the exhibit features 10 pencil and ink drawings of famous people who hold considerable influence. Booth argues in his artist's statement that the public values celebrities' opinions over those of the majority. To learn more, read Penn Current's story on Booth's exhibit.

Kraidy, is welcoming its inaugural postdoctoral fellows, Rayya El Zein and Samira Rajabi, who will be at Annenberg for two years, as well as a new research fellow, Bülay Doğan.
